FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • ARE YOU CERTIFIED AND LICENSED?
Yes! We take safety very seriously. Michelle is a 5x certified permanent makeup artist, insured by PPIB and Licensed by the Washington State Department of Licensing.
  • CAN EVERYONE GET PERMANENT MAKEUP DONE?
No, permanent makeup is NOT recommended and we will NOT perform any appointments on any clients who are or have any of the following: Pregnant or nursing Diabetic Undergoing chemotherapy (consult your doctor first) Viral infections and/or diseases Epilepsy A pacemaker, or major heart problems Had an organ transplant Skin irritation or psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc) Generally not feeling well (cold, flu, etc.) Had Botox in the past two months Used Accutane in the past year HIV Hepatitis
  • HOW LONG DOES THE WHOLE PROCEDURE TAKE?
On average, it takes around 3 hours for the initial procedure. I spend around 1 hour alone mapping the brows to your desired shape to make sure we are both happy with it and the rest of the time is allocated to numbing, color selection and creating your perfect brow.
  • DOES IT HURT? AND IS IT SAFE?
We get mixed review on pain. Everyone has a different level of sensitivity so topical anesthetics are applied during and sometimes before the treatment to alleviate any sensation or discomfort. Some clients naturally feel more sore in one brow than the other. You will hear a scratch noise/ sensation throughout the procedure. Music is usually played during the procedure, however, feel free to bring your own earphones and music to distract you. It is absolutely safe. Sterilized, disposable needles and supplies are used during the process.
  • WILL I BE SWOLLEN? IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
You won’t be swollen but you might have slightly red skin around eyebrows, this should last no more than 1 hour. There is no downtime associated with the treatment. Redness and swelling will dissipate within an hour after the procedure. The full healing process takes around 4-8 weeks so please follow the aftercare accordingly to achieve the best results. For lips, swelling can occur and is more common. This can last up to 5 days and will return back to normal after a week. Ice packs be applied for 10 to 15 minutes each hour for the first 4-8 hours following the procedure to reduce swelling and provide comfort.
  • HOW LONG WILL IT LAST? WHAT IF I STOP GETTING TOUCHUPS?
As long as its maintained properly, the ink can last up to four years but you do need touchups to maintain the correct color and shape. If you decide to stop receiving touch-ups, your brows will eventually fade into a light color that will slowly disappear over time. Certain conditions and medicine can alter the color and pigmentation.
  • WHATS INCLUDED IN THE INITIAL PRICE?
Initial price includes initial appointment. Touch up pricing is based on the amount of time it's been since the initial appointment. Each application requires 2 Appointments. This technique rarely heals absolutely perfect the first session. Its essential for the 2nd appointment to fully complete the brows. Its common for the first appointment to heal light or have inconsistencies, but will retain the shape. Its usually not until the 2nd session that the brows look more complete, blended and natural.
  • DO RESULTS VARY?
Yes - color retention and overall results are different for each individual. Factors such as sun exposure, skin type, aftercare, lifestyle and skin tone determine how your brows heal. OILY SKIN - tends to 'push out' the ink quicker, and may need more frequent touch ups and heal extra powdery. DARKER SKIN - will have less contrast and may heal even more powdery or solid looking than lighter tones. The darker the skin tone, the less detail you will see. MATURE SKIN - is very fine, delicate and thin. It tends to heal more powdery and lines can heal on the thicker side. Results are very unpredictable. The final results are not guaranteed to replace makeup- you may still need to use a pencil or powder to create your own unique, desired look. The ultimate goal is to have natural looking, balanced brows.
  • IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LOOK OF FRESH AND HEALED BROWS?
Yes, hair strokes appear crisp and exaggerated at first, and brows will be really dark for a few days after each treatment. As the brows heal, the lines will slightly expand and are lighter, slightly fuzzy, and softer looking. As the color settles into the skin it tends to heal a bit cooler than when first applied.
  • DO I NEED TO REMOVE MY NATURAL HAIR TO GET THIS DONE?
No! Please don’t! This technique actually looks best when there’s natural hair in place. It creates a more realistic look when layered with the texture of your own hair. **IMPORTANT** This will not look as realistic or 3 dimensional on you if you are bald or have very little brow hair. it will still look two dimensional, without the texture of real hair to add that layer of dimension. It is still a nice soft alternative to makeup or solid block tattooing. **IMPORTANT** If you are over 70 years old, effects are far fuzzier and powdery, due to the reduced elasticity and low collagen in the skin and results are unpredictable
  • WHY TWO SESSIONS?
1st Appointment - "FOUNDATION SESSION” - Brow mapping and collaborating together on the perfect shape according to your facial features, desired thickness and desired ‘look'. Application of a natural hair stoke pattern. Strokes are applied by hand with a single use disposable tool and the area is numbed for minimal pain. Brows are quite dark for the first week and soften as they heal over the next month. Everyone’s skin is different, some people will retain a lot of color, others will heal very light or patchy. This appointment is not meant to heal perfectly. This appointment takes approx. 2- 2.5 hours’ total. 2nd Appointment - “PERFECTING SESSION"- recommended 6-8 weeks later - to touch up any light spots, build additional texture, add hair strokes or tweak and perfect the shape. This session usually takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. Some people may need more than two sessions to achieve their desired brow, due to stubborn skin, improper aftercare, scarring from tweezing etc.
  • HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO GET MY BROWS RE-DONE?
This is a semi-permanent process. It will fade over time, to varying degrees. A touch up or "REFRESH APPOINTMENT" is recommended at least once every year to keep brows looking their best!
  • I HEARD SOME CLIENTS JUST DO NOT RETAIN PIGMENTS AFTER A FEW VISITS. COULD THIS HAPPEN?
Yes, it does happen and yes it’s true! A third appointment is usually set up so the client has the opportunity to return and I get the chance to review the work and sort out any (if any) tweaks that might need to be redone. Often times, the clients will cancel this appointment if all is well, however there are the occasional few that may need one or two extra strokes to finish the look. Some ladies’ skin may react to the trauma of the tattooing and the skin may try to push the foreign body of pigment by producing an extreme scab, they eventually fall taking all the pigment with it. There is a condition called Pigment Allergy (PPD Allergy, a condition known by dermatologists) or Auto Immune Disease symptoms (the client may not even be aware of it.) The skin overreacts and becomes super sensitive to the pigment and rejects it at any cost.
  • CAN YOU GUARANTEE YOUR WORK?
Unfortunately, I can’t. How the skin will react is different for everyone and many factors are to be taken into consideration. Skin type, age, scarring, diet, stress levels, facial products used, etc. All play a key role in how the pigment will hold, which is why it is important to know that more than one touch up may be required. I can guarantee that your face is important to me and that I will act in accordance with my experience and expertise to give you the absolute best. I can guarantee that I will strive to make your gratified and content every time. However, there are no guarantees in this industry. Please think long and hard before you decide to go for it.
  • WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE IT?
Although Microblading or Gradient Eyebrow Tattoo is considered to be semi-permanent, the procedure does allow flexibility for color and shape change to some extent. However, I will work closely with you to ensure that you are satisfied with the proposed color and shape. I will allow you to have as much control over the procedure as possible, so there’s very little room for error. If you do not like the decision you made, the touch up appointment can be cancelled and the pigmented area will naturally fade away over time. If you aren’t 100% sure you would benefit from this procedure, please opt for a more temporary option. There are no refunds for this procedure because I will ensure that you and I will work to agree to a shape and color that we agree on.
